Kirsty Allison’s debut novel, Psychomachia will be published by Wrecking Ball Press at some date in the not too distant future.
She is editor and publisher of Cold Lips, with related parties internationally, and arts editor on DJ Mag.
She performs as Vagrant Lovers – and the debut album, Love is Analogue is coming in 2020. This is a collaboration with Gil De Ray, produced by Kelli Ali, ex-Sneaker Pimp (Kirsty stars as Grace Rider, in Kelli’s forthcoming film, Ghost Driver). Contributions come from Malik Ameer (Def Presse), Danielle De Picciotto, and more to be announced.
Gil and Kirsty started performing at galleries and literary festivals in the UK and Ibiza last year, after first collaborating on a film in New Orleans, with Gil writing music for a poem she’d chalked up over the city.
First writing professionally as a teenager, Kirsty is the author of hand-stitched poetry books, the book for Red Gallery: Making Something Out Of Nothing, and is widely published as a journalist, short story writer, and poet, in anthologies and various titles: Vogue, The Guardian, Dazed, Elle, Ambit, Illustrated Ape, 3:AM.
Broadcasting on national television at 19 years-old, and across Europe in her early 20s, she toured in a DJ band with Irvine Welsh and Kris Needs, with a residency at Ibiza’s notorious Manumission Motel.
Recognised as a performer, she’s shared the bill with Dr. John Cooper Clarke, Thurston Moore, Murray Lachlan Young, members of the Fat White Family, and opened Andrew Weatherall’s Convenanza festival in the South of France last year. Her first band was with Dave Barbarossa, drummer for Bow Wow Wow, Adam Ant, and muse to Malcolm McLaren who called his sound the ‘burundi beat’ . She began performing poetry at Salena Godden’s Book Club Boutique in 2012.
Her art films feature poetry, showing in the Tate, Gallery46, and elsewhere. She has awards for film (Tantric Tourists), radio (The Second Summer of Love R2), and copywriting. She is an occasional professor, and consultant. Working as a model with Oxfam, advisor to the UN, stylist to bring awareness to Hep C, facilitator of fanzines via CSV for homeless, refugees, addicts, mental health sufferers, the disabled, young people in care and the unemployed. She’s also supported Art Saves Lives as resident poet and presenter on Resonance FM, and supports outsiders, prisoners and ex-prisoners with Stretch.
